Tết Tết Tết Tết Đến Rồi

January 27, 2020 Hello everybody!  This week has been really weird. This week was the Big Tết week, and EVERYBODY was gone. Like, literally, the streets were empty, and all the stores, restaurants gas stations, grocerie stores and everything else was just closed. It was super spooky. So we've been living off our stockpile of instant noodles for the last 3 days haha. But despite the emptiness, we were blessed with some surprises this week! We met with this woman out of nowhere and decided to get lunch and she ended up being super interested in our message, which is awesome. Also this man called us out of nowhere and said he wanted to meet and so we were like k, he wants to learn english. But no! He was interested in our message as well! So that's been super awesome! Participating in the new years celebrations have been super fun also! Lots of yummy food and lots of lucky money  Anyway, this week we've been meeting with a lot of families. Something t...

Cats, Cookies, and Communism: a Cautionary Tale

One last photo with chị nga  Xin chào mỗi người!  This week has been pretty good. It came to my attention that I really didnt include many details about what actually happened last week, so I will try to amend that mistake this week.  So, last tuesday we visited one of our investigators at the very edge of Thử Đức,  and our lesson with him went very well! He is a little harder to teach, but I think he is finally starting to understand on his own, which is awesome. Since it was quite a trip to go to his house, we spent the rest of the day out there, studying and contacting at the mall until we had to come back to the church for a lesson in the evening.  A note about Saigon: it's so interesting because one moment you will be in a alley neighborhood with chickens and dogs walking around and banana trees growing between houses and stuff, and then you walk for a little bit you go to a mall that's straight out of america with a McDonalds and stuff. Unfort...

Con không thể đợi cho tết hết rồi (I can't wait for Tét to end)

Xin chào mỗi người  Hello everybody! How are you all this week? This week has been pretty good in Vietnam. After our super slow week last week, this week has been super busy. We have two baptisms set for February and we had a couple of lessons with 8 different people this week! The hardest part about this week is how much we've been inside!  I dont really have much to report, actually. The highlight of the week for me was contacting, probably. We mostly do that in the evening, and we meet all sorts of interesting people. For instance, at the bus stop this week, this cô (middle aged woman) started giving me a full on vietnamese lesson in pronunciation. Turns out she's a school teacher, and my vietnamese was so bad she just couldn't stand it hahaha.  As stated earlier, we had a lot of lessons this week. And each lesson I learned a lot from the questions of other people. Funny how being a teacher forces you to learn so much.  Anyway, this week was good. ...

2020 Vision

Xin chào ông bà chú cô anh chị em! Hello everybody! Sorry that I missed the big email last week, we decided to play soccer for pday last time and the time just kind of slipped by! (And in case you were wondering, yeah, Vietnamese people are really good at soccer, we got our trash handed to us) Anyway, the last two weeks have been very good. Things have been a little slower here the past couple weeks because of finals and Tết, which are  both super stressful for all the students here in Thủ Đức. HOWEVER, this coming week we managed to schedule a lot of appointments with some interested people from our english classes, which is great.  I guess I should explain about our english class. Most people in vietnam know at least a little English, and a lot of kids learn it in school. So we have this activity to help people to practice their english skills. I have this sign that i hang on my backpack that says "free english" and so many people come to talk with us every day...
