The long awaited baptism of Chú Cường, a very nice Vietnamese man and piano teacher who, as a little boy, attended church and was taught by the missionaries until the war when the missionaries and many members left. And now after 45 years he found the missionaries and has been taught again and now baptized! A very special day!♥️
Hello everybody!
I want to start off by saying: I am fine. Some people have expressed concern but Corona isn't even that bad, and there are only a handful of cases in Vietnam anyway. It has mostly been an impediment to meeting with people, but other than that we are completely safe and healthy! (The scare is worse than the virus itself, really)
Anyway, the government shut down all schools this week and continuing into next week, so everybody in the city has been super bored and they all have a lot of free time. And yet, at the same time, the streets are empty and nobody can meet. That's ok though, we are all just learning to be patient
But besides that, this week was actually really eventful! One event in particular is that my companion really had to go to the bathroom so we ducked into a circle k and while he went I started talking to this guy. When elder mãnh got back out we talked to this girl who was with the guy and while he was not super interested, she was, and set up an appointment for the next day! And when she came and we taught, I felt the spirit stronger than in any lesson I've yet taught, and I could tell she felt it too. So even though things are slower, God hasn't forgotten us, and continues to put people in our path. (And my companions small bladder was actually a blessing)
The church was renovated this week, and it looks so good! Got repainted and got that wooden railing thing that goes on the bottom half of the wall, it's so nice. But because of the renovations, the computer was unusable and when it was time to make the programs for the baptism (more on that later) we had a little adventure finding a computer we could use. We ended up finding one at this gaming center place for league of legends or something, which was very interesting. It was the perfect environment for a gamer, nice and dark with air conditioning and snacks on order. Luckily we didnt have to stay long, and printed off the programs in short order.
But yeah, we had a baptism this week! It was chư cường, whom I've written about before. It was an amazing time for all of us, I'm so happy for him! He is the first baptism in our area, which opened just a bit before I arrived. The baptism itself was great, and he wanted to do the special musical number himself, so he played and all the missionaries sang with him. It was a great moment.
Well, this week has been really good. Despite the slowness and the virus and everything, this week I felt very at peace with myself and a lot of self-confidence has just been washing over me. I feel more content with myself and my self- improvement, despite the constant need to continue to improve.
I know the church is true! And I know that you can feel at peace with yourself and your life through the atonement of Jesus Christ. Whatever your struggle is, he has struggled it also, and he knows how to help you overcome.
